Het verhaal speelt zich af op een prachtige avond in Changsha. Nachtvogel Jing Weiwei ontmoette He Xixi, die op het punt stond haar geboortestad te verlaten in een boekwinkel, en ze spraken af om samen een nachtelijke reis te maken.
